Israel: Documentary Examines Professor Mechoulam's Pioneering Work With Cannabis

RaphaelMechoulam[PotNetwork.com]

The Scientist, a documentary released by filmmaker Zach Klein which aims to promote the work of Professor Raphael Mechoulam, is available online for free viewing.

Filmmaker Zach Klein first met Professor Mechoulam when researching the ways in which cannabis reduced the symptoms of chemotherapy that his mother was experiencing while being treated for breast cancer. The resulting documentary follows Professor Mechoulam's attempt to answer the potent question: Are we missing something?

While the work of Dr. Mechoulam in the cannabis field started way back in 1960, he maintained a humble attitude when it comes to the diffusion to the general public of the incredible discoveries he was able to publish. Only a few years ago Dr. Mechoulam agreed to grant an exclusive right to Zach Klein to produce a documentary about his lifetime achievements, to help spread the word and reach out to patients that suffer from medical conditions that can be treated with cannabinoids.

"Here we have a group of compounds, an endogenous system of major importance, it is not being used as much as it should be in the clinic, it is of great promise in the clinic," explained Dr. Mechoulam. "Let's try to push it forward and maybe this film can push it forward a bit."

The Scientist was produced, over period of four years, in association with Fundación CANNA, a non-profit research foundation focusing on the study of Cannabis and its compounds.

California: Marijuana-Infused Sprig Soda Launches In Dispensaries

SprigSodaCan

The creators of Sprig -- a THC-infused citrus soda -- announced that distribution of the product has begun in Southern California and is now available in select medical marijuana dispensaries.

According to the makers, Sprig is the first scientifically made, low dose THC beverage in California. Sprig says it "advocates a safe, social, light-use message for new and experienced cannabis consumers."

"A lab-made, light cannabis beverage is the ideal way to consume medical marijuana," said Sprig founder, Michael Lewis. "It is healthier than smoking, and safer than current high dose, homemade edible products.

"Sprig was created by experienced scientists and beverage experts," Lewis said. "As marijuana reform sweeps North America, people deserve a superior product they can trust."

Last week, Sprig began widespread distribution to Southern California's top medical marijuana dispensaries. Sprig is available in 12-ounce cans, each with 15 milligrams of THC extracted from premium cannabis. Sprig claims its "scientifically-made THC blend and flavor results in a great experience every time -- a citrus soda that is delicious and uplifting with noticeable effects in less than 30 minutes." (Those of us with elevated tolerances have our doubts about 15 milligrams.)

U.S.: Marijuana Arrest Turns Into Music Career For Chief Greenbud

ChiefGreenbud2015(Use)

A simple marijuana possession charge in a small Nashville suburb back in 2005 changed the career trajectory of a small business owner and songwriter. When he saw firsthand how the system handles those convicted of what he saw as a victimless crime, Chief Greenbud decided to share his experience.

After writing several songs on the subject and posting them online, he was asked to perform for a local chapter of NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. Ten years later the Chief is releasing his fourth album and has amassed over 1.7 million followers on his social networks.

Chief Greenbud's latest CD, "Chief Greenbud Volume 4" is set for physical and digital release on August 25.

The Chief said he's especially proud of the title, saying “I've spent a lot of time thinking about it. We've had multiple meetings brainstorming ideas to come up with the perfect name to represent what we're putting on the CD. I feel that we captured its essence,” he noted lightheartedly.

“There are several songs that I am excited for people to hear," Chief Greenbud said. "‘Everybody Gets High’ is an upbeat anthem that every stoner will be able to groove to and sing along with.”

Another song on the disc is 'iBake', about a regular guy who likes to smoke a little weed but is fearful of what may happen if he is caught. As the lyrics state, "I can’t wait for the day when my state says okay, and I won’t waste a single minute being afraid I bake."

U.S.: Stashlogix Helps Keep Cannabis Secure For Families

StashlogixContainers

With marijuana legal in more and more states, one issue that arises repeatedly is child safety.

Stashlogix wants to help keep marijuana where it belongs — in the hands of responsible adults.

With an integrated combination lock and strong odor barriers, Stashlogix says its container prevents kids from stumbling across a cannabis-infused hard candy that Dad uses to ease his back pain, or to stop a teenager from not only finding the stash of Maui Waui, but smoking it.

This simple solution to a serious problem pulls it off in style, too. These are not bags emblazoned with pot leaves and Rastafarian colors. Instead, Stashlogix line of three containers look more like cases for high-end camera equipment, or smartphone accessories.

“As a family man, I hunted for a container that could hold cannabis products discretely, and that would stop my kids from ever gaining access to it,” said Stashlogix founder Skip Stone. “But I could not find anything that was lightweight, lockable and portable.

"Most of the products were heavy boxes," Stone said. "The others were gaudy with nods and winks to stoner culture. Neither of these options appealed to me. So I designed Stashlogix.”

U.S.: 'Hempster Clothing' To Begin Online Sales April 20; Profits Go To Legalization

HempsterEst.2015[t-shirt]

The 'Hempster Clothing' line was introduced on Thursday by Algae International Group, Inc., through its operating subsidiary American Seed & Oil Company.

The company is introducing the first clothing items it plans to start selling through an e-commerce site by April 20. The introduction of the first clothing items will be combined with a campaign to fund efforts to legalize marijuana nationwide.

American Seed & Oil Company will introduce four t-shirts bearing various designs specific to the 'Hempster Clothing' line brand. One hundred percent of the profit from the sales of these first four t-shirts over the course of the next year will be donated to the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), an organization dedicated to ending the federal prohibition of marijuana and empowering states to regulate their own marijuana policy.

American Seed & Oil's overall mission is to create a variety of market competitive, environmental conscious, consumer and commercial products utilizing various forms of cannabis. A clothing line was conceived as part of American Seed & Oil Company's original business plan.

Hemp requires half the water and half the land required by cotton to produce equal quantities of fiber for clothing production. While cotton accounts for a major portion of agricultural pesticides, hemp requires no pesticides at all.

Minnesota: Pot (The Movie) World Premiere Set For Minneapolis-St. Paul Film Festival

Pot(TheMovie)

With April 20, the global marijuana holiday, just around the corner and marijuana policy becoming an ever-increasing political hot button subject, a cannabis documentary is set to debut on the big screen.

Pot (the movie) will have its world premiere on April 11, at St. Anthony Main Theater as part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival. Filmmaker Michael Hope brings together the modern information on marijuana use and products, current law enforcement perspectives, as well as the history and science that led us to this crossroad in history.

“If people are going to have an opinion on marijuana, they should have accurate, current information for an informed opinion," Hope said. "This is that film.

"This is an educational documentary, intended to help people have an informed opinion on the subject of marijuana," Hope said. "Pot (the movie) has original, timely content, which people need to see now. It is unlike any movie on the subject, showing important information about current science, use, laws, and effect of current policies.”

Hope spent 2014 traveling across the country exploring the issue between legalization in Colorado and the strict prosecution in his home state of South Dakota. Along his travels, Hope came across some wonderful stories, especially on the medical side of the marijuana story, from mother, Angela Brown, who is being prosecuted for using cannabis as medicine for her son’s traumatic brain injury after traditional medicine failed, to other law-abiding citizens being affected by outdated public policy.

U.S.: Entrepreneur Plans To Produce World's First Hemp Skateboard

BrianWestphalLotusBoards[Ganjapreneur]

Brian Westphal, founder of Lotus Boards, is looking to produce the world's first hemp skateboard.

In an interview with Ganjapreneur, Westphal discussed his goals to spread awareness about ecological manufacturing using biological composite materials and 3D printing. The piece was published as part of a series of interviews conducted via Ganjapreneur with business owners and investors who specialize in cannabis and hemp.

Westphal discusses how he originally came up with the idea after learning about industrial hemp on the "Joe Rogan Experience" Podcast.

"Joe would bring up the illegality of industrial hemp and the real conspiracy perpetrated by the media during the 1920?s," Westphal said. "He also would discuss Henry Ford’s hemp plastic concept car as a great example of the wide uses of hemp.

"From there I researched to see what happened to this material," Westphal said. "Why is nobody developing with it? And how come bio-plastics and industrial hemp aren’t more prevalent in our society?"

Westphal also discussed his belief that the future of manufacturing will likely hinge on ecological, renewable practices and 3D printing. "Hemp offers many benefits to our current methods of manufacturing paper, textiles, houses, and of course, plastics," he said.

Colorado: Marijuana-Based Sex Spray Hitting Shops

ForiaPleasureWithin

Hemp News

A new marijuana-based spray which claims to help women have better sex is hitting the shelves in Colorado this week.

Foria, containing cannabis extract, claims the relaxing properties of weed will help women have better and more satisfying sex, reports Trevor Hughes at USA Today. The spray has been available for a few months in California, but only to people with a medical marijuana authorization; the Colorado roll-out will be to the general public, since adults 21 and over are allowed to buy and use cannabis in the Rocky Mountain State.

The edible, coconut oil-based spray is designed to be sprayed onto the vagina about 30 minutes before sex. It's making its Colorado debut on Thursday at an Aspen marijuana boutique.

Foria originates from Aphrodite Group, a California medical marijuana collective. It's the latest in a growing line of cannabis-infused products, including lotions, candies and patches. The long history of marijuana use gives "significant credibility" to the concept, according to scientists.

"Cannabis is an aphrodisiac," said Genifer Murray, CEO of CannLabs, a leading marijuana-testing company. "And there's a lot of nerves down there."

Foria's slick marketing campaign is setting it apart from its competitors. The company is launching Foria at the X Games in Aspen, which begin January 22. A video on the Foria website features women speaking about how they use it and its effects.

France: THC-Free Marijuana Vape Pen Hitting The Market

KanaVape(ProductShot)

By Steve Elliott
Hemp News

Electronic cigarettes containing extracts of marijuana -- but no psychoactive THC -- are about to hit the market in France any day now. The e-cigs contain cannabinoids, including cannabidiol (CBD), which give relaxing and pain-killing effects, according to the manufacturer.

Three young French entrepreneurs are launching the product, which launches before the end of December, and they claim it will be entirely legal, reports The Local.

"KanaVape brings you many of the benefits of cannabinoids without the psychotic effect of THC," claims the website of the product, due to go on sale this month in France.

"Vape pens" which allow consumers to inhale cannabis or tobacco vapor are increasingly popular in the United States. But they've been rare in Europe until now.

"By using only hemp with 5 percent CBD (Cannabidiol) and no THC, KanaVape provides you with a unique cannabinoids excperience," the company claims. "Cannabidiol is a non-psychotic cannabinoid, it will not make you 'high' but will help you relax." (Note the not-very-subtle substitution of the word "psychotic" for the proper term, "psychoactive," perhaps to demonize THC and make it seem more threatening -- a favorite, albeit quite deceptive, marketing strategy for "CBD-only" purveyors.)

CBD-rich hemp, which is grown legally to make products such as oil, rope, cloth, paper, and fuel, will be used to make the vapor mix.

Hemp News

A portable analyzer instrument called the Cannalyzer-420™ is now avaialble; the product is designed to measure marijuana potency including THC, CBD, and more, according to the makers, Seattle-based LightWave Science, Inc.

Infrared technology is used in the Cannalyzer, according to the company, similar to that used by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on farm products for more than a decade.

The patent-pending instrument allows more growers, extractors, and dispensaries to quickly determine the quality their cannabis using infrared technology with repeatable accuracy within 1 percent, according to LightWave Science, Inc.

The idea is to save lots of time by not having to continuously send cannabis samples to expensive testing laboratories. "Use it when purchasing trim for your extracts or new product opportunities arriving at your back door," the company advises.

The Cannalyzer-420 measures marijuana flowers and leaves for the percentage of THC, CBD, and moisture, using non-contact, non-destructive infrared technology, according to the company. The Cannalyzer is a "grind and measure" unit which works by grinding the product into a sample dish, then placing it onto the measurement area to see instant results displayed onscreen.

The small, lightweight case is 6"x11"x14", with internal battery for 8 hours of operation in the field, according to the company. No internet connection is required.

Options are available to additionally measure extracts such as oils and dabs, according to LightWave Science, Inc.
