Early Wednesday morning the Care By Design (CBD Guild) production facilities in Santa Rosa, California and Sonoma County were searched and temporarily closed by the Santa Rosa Police Department and the DEA (Federal Drug Enforcement Administration). Law enforcement seized equipment, computers, product, payroll, payroll taxes and financial paperwork, and detained Dennis Franklin Hunter, a founding patient-member of CBD Guild.

Initially, the court set Dennis’ bail at $5 million. However, he was released within 48 hours and no charges have been filed at this time. Employees were granted re-entry to the facilities this morning, where an all-employee meeting was held.

“The company will work closely with government officials and law enforcement to swiftly resolve the investigation and address any and all concerns regarding our operations," said Nick Caston, spokesman for CBD Guild. "We maintain our strong commitment to operating with full transparency.

"Our main focus is resuming operations and providing our thousands of patients with the medicine that they depend on," Caston said. "For some of our patients this is truly a matter of life or death.”

The Emerald Cup, now in its third year in Santa Rosa, California, on Sunday wrapped up its two-day run at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds with its biggest attendance ever. The event showcased outdoor, organically grown marijuana the the culture which has grown around the plant.

More than 21,000 people were drawn by the weekend event, according to organizer Tim Blake, compared to 13,000 last year and 7,000 in 2013, the first year it was relocated from Mendocino County, where it had begun 12 years ago, reports Clark Mason at The Press Democrat.

The event draws many cannabis cultivators from the "Emerald Triangle" of Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity counties in California, reputed to be home of the largest and best cannabis crop in the state.

The Emerald Cup isn't just a contest to choose the best flowers; it's also a community event for growers and cannabis enthusiasts, with business exhibits, educational seminars and music.

More than 420 entries were submitted to this year's contest, with the winner getting a trip for two to Jamaica, along with the sudden ability to charge a premium price for the chosen pot strain and its seeds and clones.

This year, Jackson Zenter, a.k.a. "Mean Jean" of Laytonville, won with his Cherry Limeaid flowers, described as sweet and fruity, but with a "paint thinner and Bain de Soleil" undertones.

"Unlike New York-based High Times events or L.A.-based Hempcon, The Emerald Cup is presented by locals, for locals, and the state’s definitive county fair draws much of California’s original cannabis industry." ~ SFGate, "Smell The Truth"

“Not only is the spirit of the event responsible, it is vital that the lessons it has to offer are heard and understood by those outside it. Sustainability, earth-friendly practices, clean medicine and better business standards all take center stage during the event, one which is beginning to attract a global audience.” ~ John Vergados, SKUNK Magazine

The Emerald Cup will make its highly anticipated return to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, California, on December 13 and 14. For more than a decade, The Emerald Cup has become synonymous with setting the highest standards for sustainable, sun-grown, outdoor cannabis and is the largest, most respected, organic, outdoor, medicinal cannabis competition in the world, making it “The Definitive Cup for the Fall Harvest.”

For the third year in a row, SKUNK Magazine will present the Emerald Cup’s grand prize of an all-inclusive stay for two at their resort, Pure Garden, in Negril, Jamaica.
